Sunday 10 Sepember 2007 BJJ fundamentals
Smallish class tonight with only about 20 on the mat.
We started off with a quick warm up and an Armbar drill.
Well the Armbar drill didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped so I changed my plan for class and we covered the basic armbar from mount and all it’s fine points and then flowed into what steps to take in order to breakdown pour opponents defence.
Eg dealing with them grabbing their own arm and defending the armbar, we covered several ways and concepts to overcome their resistance. Good progress from everyone and a good class overall.
Again we were graced with a couple of special members, Brad Kora was on the mat, having just put some more finishing touches to the highly anticipated album, he found some time to come down and hit the mat for a class and some grappling. Brad and Stu have both impressed me with their progress and work ethic by blowing the stereotype about isolated grapplers. Their progress and grappling skills as well as their technical knowledge is a pleasure to see, Brad in particular shows his addiction to BJJ is paying dividends and his skill on the mat is growing everytime we see him.
The other extremely pleasant surprise was the return (albeit for a short time) of Dion. It was a real boost to me to see him again and to have him on the mat is a great feeling, welcome back D.
Take care see you all tonight!
