Jonny Bares MMA debut
Jonny had his first MMA fight last night, Saturday 15th September, he faught on Rex Reddens “Cage Wars” card in Porirua.
Jonny has been training like a mad man at Lockdown MMA with Gareth and Alex. He’s also been working extensively with Dave Low the Wrestling coach at Lockdown. Jonny’s opponent was Matthew Colquhoun (68 KG) of Mana MMA – Wairoa. Here’s a quick run-down of the fight:
Jonny’s opponent throws a big overhand right which glances off Jonny’s left cheek, Jonny does a beautiful double leg take down and passes to the left side.
Matthew does a classic head squeeze and also holds Jonny’s shorts. Ref tells Matthew to let go and Jonny transitions to front control. Matthew scrambles to his knees still trying to squeeze Jonny’s brains out.
Jonny ends up sprawled on Matthews turtle, Matthew once again cautioned for holding Jonnys shorts, when he lets go Jonny jumps up and preforms his patented outside head arm guillotine.
Ref (Damian Smith) steps in and ends the fight as Matthew is tapping like Fred Astaire, Matthew try’s to claim he wasn’t tapping just trying to escape. Ref has none of it and the fight is ended, don’t know the exact time but about 30-40 secs in R1
Congrats to Jonny, all the hard training has clearly paid off.
