Thursday 19th June Fundamentals
Tonight we started off with a basic pass side control drill
1:Our workable partner had us in side control, we placed our forearms against there side, and pushed them down so that they were touching our thighs.we then did 3 key things:Bumped up,bridged away, and slid our lower leg through across there stomach so that our knee was poking out the other side.We then used this knee as a pivot to swing around and place our Partner in guard
2:This time we did a guard passing exercise with our partner on our hooks, but were were only allowed to use 1 hand, and our partnerwas only allowed to come up one 1 knee. The object being for them to try and pass guard and for us to stop them from doing that
3:The next exercise was the same only this time we were allowed to use both hands and both hooks and our partner could do the same, with the object of passing guard
4:This next exercise was when our partner was standing, and we had control of there cuffs, and had our feet placed in their hips(toes out) , we would then moved one foot at a time to place our feet in their biceps, then back to hips, then place our feet behind the knees one at a time, then back to hips, then biceps, then hips and so on…The idea being to hold our partner off to try and unbalance them and make it awkward for them, even if they moved from side to side forward and back jus to keep them at bay ready to off balance them.
5:This exercise was the roll over drill. We would sit on the mat and have our knees and elbows touching. We would then looked over our right shoulder, tilt our head to the left and roll over the right shoulder and let our right foot touch the mat, then push off and come back to our orignal position. This time we would look over our left shoulder and tilt out head to the right and roll to the left and let our left foot touch the mat and push off again to come back to our sitting position.we kept going over this. All the while keeping our elbows and knees touching.
6:Front sweep:Just like in exercise 4 our partners have stood up (are leaning forward)and we have control of their cuffs and have our feet placed in their hips(Toes pointing outward). We would then give them a little nudge backward to get a forward pushing reaction from them. With slightly bent knees we would lift them up and bring there head towards our (Checking for wax in their ear as Geoff would say). Then using the skills we developed in exercise 5(The rollover Drill) look over our right shoulder tilt our head left and roll over our right shoulder so they do a Roly Poly onto the mat and we follow them over to mount.
7:Back Sweep:This time our partner has stood up and we still have our legs wrapped around them in guard. We then uncrossed our legs and dropped our butt to the mat and grabbed their ankles. We then nudge our kness into their stomach pull their ankles towards us(Push-Pull motion) and dropped them backwards. We would them come up onto our right hand and do a series of little pushes tucking our right leg in following over to the mount position.
