Thursday the 18th of July Fundamentals

Tonight we started of in Knee Ride

1:We had our right knee flat across the stomach of our partner and had our hands lightly resting on their shoulders while they move around and bucked and bridged in order to gain control,and maintained the controlling position.

2:Here we were in the knee ride position again,only this time our left hand had grabbed there Gi at the right tricep,and our right hand had grabbed their pants at the knee(for a spike).We then placed all our weight onto our right knee,and stepped our left leg over their head(still holding the lower arm).We then slid down the arm and brought our right knee up (Like a wiper Blade) to secure the arm between our legs.We then lay back welding their arm to our chest(Pinky closest to us) and bridged our hips up for the arm bar.

3:This time we started from side control short base both hands cupping our partners left shoulder.We then reached around with our left hand and grabbed their right tricep and used placed our right hand down by our partners left hip.We then did a push-up to jump to knee ride, to then start drill 2

4:This time we started from side control,jumped up and swung our left leg over our partners head,still pulling up their right tricep. and wiper blading our right leg in for the arm bar in one continious movement

5:Far armbar from knee ride.This time we have the knee ride position and our partner used their left arm to try and push our right knee away creating a little bit of space for us to slide our right hand under that space(palm up) cupping their left tricep,and pulling thm up onto our right shin.We then stepped over their head with our left leg, spinning around to place it in the back of their kidneys.(creating space to sit down on our butt), with the right leg pinning down their head.We then squeezed both knees together and lay back,Bridging up for hip penatration until we got the tap.

6:Figure 4 from North South.Here we were in side control and came around to North South,trapping their their head and right arm between our legs and Butt.We then grabbed their left wrist with our right hand ,and brought our left hand under their wrist,and locked it to ours.We then pulled their arm up to a 90 degree angle, and rotated their arm anti clockwise until they tapped.

Sunday the 13th of July Fundamentals

Tonight we did a half hour of pass or sweep.The person in the middle would get whatever Grips and hooks they wanted.We then did 3 minute rounds of line ups facing a different partner each time.The objective being going for the Submission.

Thursday July the 10th Fundamentals

Tonight we started off we some of John’s recent seminar stuff

1:Feet in our partners hips(toes out) and grabbing the collar with the left hand, then alternating to the right hand, then back again.

2:This time we were in the same position but our partner has grabbed our legs at the knees,to try and pass guard.As soon as this happened we would gang up on their right arm by gripping at their cuff with both hands and lauching backwards (Arms into lats for a stronger pull) breaking their grip and launching them forward til they almost face planted the mat.

3:Here we had the same postion as 2,but our partner had a really strong grip which was hard to break.so this time not only did we gang up on the right arm but we also used our left leg to kick forward breaking their grip.

4:Here we drilled both scenario’s of number 2 and 3.

5:This time our partner would sit back on their heels, and base themselves, so we used our left leg and placed it right in the middle of their chest and pushed them over to the left causing them to roll back.We then sat back away to re-position

Sunday the 6th of July Fundamentals

Today we started off with one of Johns sweeps he covered in his recent seminar:

1:Our partner is kneeling down and We have a grip on our their collar with our right hand, and our feet are in their hips(toes pointed out).We then hipped out to our right hand side,so that we are sitting on our left butt check.From their we placed our left foot at the base of their right knee and brought our left leg up under theirleft armpit.We did 3 things simutaneously:1 pull them forward off balance 2 kicked their right knee our from under them 3 kicked their left armpit with our right shin. this enabled the sweep and we followed them over to mount.

2:We went head to head and each had a go at slipping our heads to the right hand side to their neck,so that we weren’t directly centered.From here we brought our right hand over to their left knee, and pulling that knee towards us and driving their head away from us followed them over to the mount position.

3:Here we started from head to head again and one of us would jump to guard

4:Here we went head to head again and did the exercise in drill 2, only this time instead of going to mount we went to side control.

5:Here we had half guard but our partner has the underhook.With our right and we would block their left hip, and with our left arm we would grabbed their right arm.We would then hip away to the left in order to create enough space to bring our left knee right into their hip.we would then circle our left arm past our face to take the underhook also dropping our left knee off the hip  to launch them forward to duck out the back.

6:This position was similar to number 5 with the half guard setup except this time we dived down so we were completley under our partner. Our right hand would grabbed their left foot and we would then bring our left hand around and transfer their left foot to this hand from our right hand.We then placed our right hand  around their left knee, and as we pulled this knee towards us.We also pulled our legs towards us causing our partner to  fall to the left hand side.Still having hold of their left foot we then came around to side control

Sunday 29th June Fundamentals

Tonight we started off with the Aeroplane Drills

1:Our Patner stuck out their arms, and ran towards us, so in order to not get hit we would have to duck under(or drop down), swing our right arm around their stomach,and come around to take their back.We would then push them away to start again over and over.

2:This time our partners would take a big right hand swing for our heads, and we would then duck down, and swing around like in Drill 1 to take the back.

3:Here we partner up in 3’s and  like drill 2, the first person would take a big right hand swing and we would duck under and take the back, only this time we would push them into the 3rd person to create a bit of space.The 3rd person would then run in to take the right hand swing and we would duck under to take the back and push them into the 2nd person to create space.So we basically alternated between the 2 to take the big swing and we would have to defend ourselves over and over.

4:This time we moved back to 2 people pairing up and our partners would do the big right hand swing just like in drill 2.We would duck under and take the back,and tucking our head down(to avoid them hitting our face with the back of their head) swinging our right arm over their right shoulder bump our hips to off balance them and pull them to rest on our right leg for a few seconds, we then pull them to the mat into the knee ride position.Note(If the partner was considerably bigger than you, and it was hard to off balance them, kick them in the back of the right knee to off balance them)

5:Rear naked choke:Our patner was sitting back on their knees and we were kneeling behind them with our right arm over their right shoulder.We then tried to grab our own left shoulder,so that our arm was right around their neck,and their was little space or no space.We then brought our left hand right up into the air(making sure it was behing their head so they couldn’t grab it) and palm facing towards us bladed down in onto their neck and also squeezing our right arm until they tapped.

6:This time we put it all together by starting off with Drill 4, the only difference being when we took the back and off balanced them, we would pull them to the mat sitting them on their butt, and going into the Rear naked choke or knee ride

Thursday The 26th June Fundamentals

Tonight was the night after John Will so we breifly touched on a couple of things John went over last night:

1:We placed our feet in our partners hips(Toes out) had a firm grip on their collar(right hand right behind the right side of their neck) and our left hand gripping their right wrist.Our partners made movements from left to right forward and back, and we just controlled them 

2:The Sweep:With the setup the same as in step 1,this time we hipped out to the right, firstly bringing our left foot in front of their right knee, and our right shin under their left armpit,we then did 3 things simultaneously( Pulled them forward,kick their knee our from underneath them with our left foot, and with our right leg, kicked them over to our left shoulder) this enabled us to sweep them and follow them over to mount.

3:Bicep to hooks drill:Here our parner has stood up but we have control of their wrists, we firstly placed our feet in their hips (Toes out), moving our left foot first we placed it in our partners right bicep, following on with the right foot in their  left bicep,then moving our right foot back again we placed it back on the hip followed by the left foot on the other hip.Moving our left foot again we placed it behind our partners right knee(Hook),followed by our right foot behind their left knee(Hook),then one foot back to their hips,followed by the other, then up to the Biceps,then back to hips and so on.

4:Knee in hip to take the back:Here we hipped out to the right side and placed our right knee firmly into our partners left hip(Controlling the left arm and the collar).Lifting up our right arm,this brought up there left arm creating space enough to release our knee from their hip pulling them forward, and ducking out the back to take the back Note: When our leg is in their hip we have to stretch this out as well as our torso to create discomfort in our partners hip.
