Sunday the 28th of September Fundamentals

1:Tonight we covered a class recap from the 21st of this month.(Figure 4 from Guard):Our partner is in our guard and places their hands on the mat.We grab their left wrist, with our right hand, let go our legs, and come up and wrap our left hand around theirsand grab our own wrist. From her we lay back and kicked our right leg over their back, brought their left elbow to our chest making sure it was at 90 degrees, and rotated the lower arm up for the Tap.

2:Again another recap from the other night:Instead of doing all the work of drill 1,we latched onto their left wrist again with our right hand, let go of our legs and with our right leg kicked their left arm towards us,swinging the leg over their back, getting the 90 degree angle again rotating the lower arm up for the tap.

3:Fig 4 from side control:This time we had side control, and our partner has gone for the underhook with their left hand.We grabbed their left wrist with our right hand, grabbed our right wrist with our left hand under their arm, used our left knee to anchor their face down, and slowly rotated their elbow up for the tap.

4:Here we had mount, and our partner went to escape by pushing our right knee with their left hand.We grabbed the wrist,we stepped off to side control and went into Drill 3 again.

4A:Here instead of stepping to side control first from Drill 4,we jumped to knee ride from mount, then side control.

5:Here we went back to drill 1,only this time before we can get their leg over our back, they pass around to the front.Because we still have their arm locked to the figure 4 we push their left hand into their left hip,and swing under 180 degree’s and roll them over, ending up in side control with their arm still locked in the figure 4.We then stepped our left knee over their face and rotated the arm up for the tap.

6:Here we had half guard and had latched onto their left wrist with our right hand.We hipped out to the left, latched onto our right wrist with or left hand and rotated their arm at the 90 degrees for the figure 4.

6A:Same position as 6 only this time we let go of the half guard, enabling our partner to pass around. As they came around we pushed their hand into their hip.Swung under 180 degree’s to roll them over.Using our knee to step onto their face rotating their arm up for the Tap.This was a variation of drill 5 but we satarted in hald guard.

Thursday the 25th of September Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started off in mount. Our partner bumped and bridged, and went from left to right. We had to relax and keep our hips level and maintain control.

2:Same postion again only this time our partner would hip out as hard as they could go,and we had to realise when the mount postion was running away from us.We had to jump to knee ride. For example, they hipped to the left hand side,we used our right knee for the knee ride.

2A:Same postion as drill 2 but this time our partner hipped out form left to right and we had to take the appropriate knee ride.

3:This drill we were stuck  in side control with our partner cupping their left hand on our shoulder, and their right hand by our right hip.We would use our right forearm and jam it in their left hip.As they would come around to North/South,we would use the momentum to roll onto our right shoulder, and go to our knees

4:This drill we were on all fours, and they were facing us grabbing us around our stomach. With our left hand we would grab their right arm and roll them over onto their back, and spin around to side control.Because we still had contol of the arm we could then jump over to go for a cross face choke.

5:This drill we had mount and we were stretched out and keeping low to maintain control. Our partner would grab us with both hands tight. We would bring our right hand aorund to their right hip and step off,to break the grip, and come around to North/South

6:We then put drill3, 4 and 5 together.Starting in mount, our partner woud grab us around the stomach. We would step off and come around to the front. As we did this they would block the hip come to all fours, and we would grab them around the stomach. They would grab our arm,and do the flip to place us on our backs, and come around to mount. We would grab them, they would step off and come around to North/South with us blocking the hip etc

Sunday the 21st of September Fundamentals

1:Tonight we had our partner in guard, and they foolishly placed their hands on the mat.We grabbed their left wrist with our right hand locked close to our body.We then opened our legs and sat up onto our right side locking our right wrist with our left hand but over their wirst. As we sat back down we spun around 90 degrees and kicked our right leg over their back, and welded ther elbow to the centre of our chest rotating the arm upwards for a figure 4

2:Same postion again as drill 1 but this time we just kicked their left arm forward with our right leg, spinning around for the figure 4 again.

3:This time we went for thearm again, and they lock their right arm to our body given us no space. We then jumped back to create space, wrapped our left arm around their neck,so that our bicep was at the back of the neck ,and our forearm was blading across the front of their neck.We then brought our right hand in front of their arm and clasped hands.Lying back down into guard and slowly raising both hands for the Guillotine.

4:This time our partner was in our guard and well ballanced so we found it hard to pull them forward. We opened our legs sat in their lap and brought our left hand over, and latched onto their left bicep. We then used our left hip to bump then back while spinning them around onto mount.

Thursday the 18th of September Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started in hooks guard with grips, and placed our right foot in their left hip.Our partner would move from left to right and go forward but we would have to try and maintain distance. Then they would stand up,so we would follow

2:Hooks again but out right hand would be in their collar, and our left hand grabbed their right wrist. We then placed our right foot in their left bicep. From here we had 2 options:(1)Kick the right leg up and over the left arm and chop over their head.Swing the left leg over the right, and pull their right arm over our right side for the Triangle.(2)Kick the right leg under their left bicep, bring the left leg up and over their head.lock the right knee over the left ankle, and grab their left hand over the left side of your body for the Triangle.

3:Single leg takedown:Here Gareth ran us through a single leg take down. Our partner stood up from hooks. We came up and put our shoulder into their shin(keeping Low),and our head went inside their right leg. From here we grabbed their ankle with both hands and pulled it forward as we drove them back with our shoulder.Planting them on the Mat

4:Here we put all 3 drills together

Thursday the 11th of September Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started off with the Underhooks rollover drill. Our partner was sitting on our hooks. We would come up from lying on our backs and get the 2 underhooks. We then would roll back and onto our left shoulder, and roll then over onto mount.

2:Here we did the same as drill 1,but instead of getting the 2 underhooks, our right would go under, and our left hand would trap their arm to the left hand side of our body.We then rolled back and our left leg would kick out and our right leg would kick up simultaneously, causing them to roll over easier, allowing us to take mount again.

3:This drill we had hooks again, and came up and grabbed their right arm,and pulled it over to the right hand side of our body.We then grabbed their belt and secured them to us.we then rolled over onto our left shoulder, kicking out our left leg,and kicking up our right rolling them over to side control this time.

3A:If we pulled them across and they didn’t put their hands out to stop from face planting the mat,we would take our left hook out and swing it over to take the back.

4:This drill we were in short based side control, and underhooked the left shoulder with our right hand(cupping it).Posting on our left hand we upped and crashed and spiked our right elbow into their ribs.We then stepped around their head with our left leg into the small of their back, and latched onto their left wrist with our right hand, and brought the left hand underneath latching onto our right wrist(Their arm should be at a 90 degree angle now)We the rotated the arm anti-clockwise for the Tap.

5:Here we had side control again.Using our right shoulder we drove it into their chest turning our body forward so we could swing our right hand under their right shoulder grabbing their collar. We then used our left hand thumb to place it on the opposite side of the collar. We then roatated our body back using gravity  to blade down our left forearm onto their neck for the choke.

6:This drill we put it all together going from underhooks to sweeping them over to side contol,to spiking the ribs to the armbar.

Thursday the 4th of September Fundamentals

1:Fior this drill we had our partner in closed guard and had our legs relaxed. We would pull in with our heals, and pull their hands to the opposite side, causing them to fall forward. We did this from both sides alternating.

2:Here we were in closed guard again and went for one of Geoff’s favourite sweeps. There were 4 things in succession:(1)We secured their right hand at the gi cuff,(2)open our legs into open guard,(3)sat up and around to the right at 90 degrees(4) Grabbed their left gi pant with our right hand. From here we kick into their left armpit with our right shin, dropped our left leg,and lifted their left leg up,causing them to roll over.

3:Here we were in open guard again and our partner grabbed our gi cuff at the ankle. We would grab their right wrist, and break the grip by pulling back our knee really quickly.

4:Here we were in our partners guard, and we have backed back, creating enough room to bring our right knee up.We then pushed their right leg down with our left hand, placed our right knee through to their chest, and stepped around with ourleft leg to the knee ride postion.

5:Here we were on our partners hooks. We would grab their ankles with both hands pinning down their legs, and drop our hips down.We then stepped off the left hook and freed our left hand stepping around to take side control

6:Here our partner had us in half guard. We would bring our right hand through between their legs pinning them down, and dropping our elbow to the mat.Putting all our weight on their legs,we walked around to side control. If we were the one in side control we practised pushing the head away and to the mat when they came around to side contol,as an ecape

Sunday the 31st of August Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started on our backs and our partner had us in side control. From here we would use our forearms to push them down to our knees. We then bridged up,and swung our right leg through to their left hip,and used this leg as a pivot to bring our upper body around to 90 degree’s.From here we swung both legs over our partner and brought them into our guard.

2:Here we were in our partners guard.in order to break it we placed our left leg out at a 7:30 position putting pressure on their legs.We then did 3 things in succession:(1)Popped thier right leg with our left had,(2)sucked our right arm back through their legs back to our Lat,(3)swung our left arm around and brought their right leg  onto our left shoulder. From here we put their knee into their face, enabling us to pass around to side control.

3:This drill was the same as 2,only this time when we passed around,we dropped our hips right down, and placed our right hand by their left hip, kicked our right leg out 90 degrees so our left lat was on top of their face.We then did waht Geoff likes to call “Killing the Fly”.This is when we grabbed their left Gi pant at the knee, and very tightly swung our right leg over onto mount position.

4:Here we were on our backs again and our partner was on mount. We trapped their right arm with both hands, and brought our left foot to the outside of their right foot.We then bridged over our left shoulder, rolling our partner over and ending up in their guard

Sunday the 24th of August Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started with arm bar from guard. Our partner is in our guard and we have control of their right arm at the sleeve with our right hand, and the Tricep with our left.We opened our guard and placed our right foot in their left hip.We then did 2 things simultaneously.Sat up and and turned to the left hand side so we faced our partner at a 90 degree angle.Still having control of their right arm, we then swung our left leg over cutting down on their neck, trapping the arm.We then bridged up for the arm bar.

2:This drill was the same setup as drill 1,but we would alternate from side to side trapping each arm and swinging the alternate leg over the neck for the armbar over and over

3:This time we have set the armbar but out partner stacked right up into us,so we let it all go to regroup

4:We went back to drill number 1 and our partnered stacked up about half way into us.While still controlling their right arm with our left hand, we used our right hand and put it to the outside of their right knee and spun right under swinnging them right over about 270 degree’s.They landed on their back so we just had to close our knees together weld theeir arm to our chest, bridge up for the armbar

5:Here we locked in the armbar again(drill 1) and they stacked into us,so we used our right hand to grab their left ankle, and lifted it up for a sweep

Thursday 21st of August Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started off in semi open guard. With our left hand we gripped our partners right sleeve, and with our right hand we reached down and grabbed their Gi at the ankle. Our partner would then raise up off their knees. As they did this we pulled their right hand across our body to stop them from posting, kicked our right shin into their left armpit and raised their left leg up to sweep them over.

2:This time we had same grips as position 1, but as we tried to sweep our partner over they would stand up on their right leg,  sp we couldn’t go for the sweep.so we just switched grips.Grabbing their left wrist with our right hand and coming around to grab their right Gi pants at the ankle, kicking up and sweeping over the other way.

3:This time we have the same setup as drill 1 but our partner is ballanced 50/50 so they are not coming up.We still go for the sweep and instead of landing in mount position,we fall by their side but still have control of the right arm between our legs.We then squeezed our knees and welded their little finger to our chest for the arm bar.

4:This time we were in Guard and had grabbed our partners right sleeve. Our partner went to step up and go for the basic guard pass on their left leg.we would let go the guard and our right hand would swing under their left leg, swing our hips high up,bringing our left leg over their head chopping our knee across their neck.Because we still had hold of their right sleeve,we pulled that tight into our chest and locked our knees together, bridging the hips for the arm bar.The Ideal is to put as much weight as poosible onto the left leg
