Thursday the 20th of November Fundamentals

Wow last night we had over 50 on the mat,so that was good to see but lack of space.Geoff talked firstly about immediate action and having an answer for every postion you find yourself in.There is a reference to it on John wills blog www.bjj.com.au. click on news then go to johns person blog.If you aren’t signed up to it you need to be. There are some sheets on immediate action that John has developed from every position you can print off and go through.

1:Last night our partner started on all fours, and we had side back control. We placed our right hand under their right armpit, and our partners aim would be to pull thier right arm in like a chicken wing trapping our arm,and dropping their right leg flat rolling us over.

2:Same setup as drill 1 again but when we placed our right hand under their right arm,we brought our left hand under their neck and clamped the right and left hand together(Like a seatbelt). They would roll over and we would go with them. They would roll back to all fours and we would follow them.

3A:Same set up as drill 1,but as our partner would go to roll we would drop back and sit on our butt,(Bascially faceplanting them on the mat) also making it near on impossible to roll us over.

3B:Same setup as drill 2 (Seatbelt clamp). Our partner would roll us over and we would follow onto our back. They would really have no where else to go so they would lift their butt off the matt as an option.Once they did this we would swing our right leg underneath, take the back and get our hooks in,and making sure our right arm was under their neck and touching our left shoulder-(Point)When you have your hooks in make sure you aren’t crossing your feet,as your partner could put pressure on them with their feet possibly causing injury.

4:Same drill as 3B(seatbelt,roll,Hooks) This time we would take our right hook out and push their right hand down trapping it under the right hand back of our knee.We then placed this hook back in again giving us the option of a cutting armbar,or rear naked choke.
