Sunday the 3rd of May Fundamentals

Tonight Gareth ran the class in Geoff’s absence, and we ran through passing our partners guards in different positions.

1:We were on our partners hooks postured back,and because our partner was lying on their back there was no immediate danger of a sweep,or choke, or armbar.Our partner came up to a sitting position.We used our left hand and placed it on their left collarbone.With our right hand we reached through underneath their legs,and grabbed their right foot,and stepped off their left hook with our right leg, freeing the leg up.From here we spun their right foot causing them to spin around 90 degree’s,going to knee ride.

2:Here they had their hooks again,and they sat up.We lifted our right leg up to be able to slide it across their left knee,and then wrapped our right arm around their head,and jumped forward,setting us up to go for the guillotine.

3:Hooks again and this time our partner pulled us back down.We had to offset their hips slightly by stepping to the left.Keeping our hips down, we walked around to the left,and secured their collar to side control.The key was to twist their hips.

4:hooks again,but this time we put our head to the left of our partner on their stomach,and our left hand grabbed their right foot and pulled it towards their left, to pull the knee down.We came up to a tripod,and pushed our legs off,and jumped around 90 degrees to our left,ending up in side control.Note-When we jumped over,we placed our left shoulder into their stomach.

5:We did pass or sweep using the above drills depending on the situation.

6:Here we were in our partners guard,they went to go for a sub and opened their legs.We put our left elbow to our left knee,and postured back,while our right hand pinned their left hip.

7:Closed guard again.We postured back,and brought our elbows in closed to our body,and pinned their hips to the mat.Shuffling backwards,we waited for their legs to pop open.We dropped our left elbow to the ground pinning their left leg,and holding our forearm to the opposite leg,walking down to side control.

8:Pass or sweep using when we were in closed guard.

9:This time our partner had half guard.We placed our left armpit over their left shoulder,and turned to face their feet(as if watching T.V ).We walked our left foot close into their butt,and used our left hand to push on their left knee to pop it off our leg,jumping to mount position.

10:Half guard again.We placed our left armpit on their left shoulder again,and pulled their head towards us with our left elbow.Keeping our right leg straight not bent,we walked around to the left  slighlty arching our back and bringing our weight forward to put pressure on a smaller area of their stomach,making it uncomfortable for them.Wlaking all the way to side control. Note Gareth said imagine you are in side control not halfguard.

11:Half guard again but this time we passed thier gaurd but as we did,our partner brought their left leg up and into our stomach,and rolled to their left side.We got a grip on their left ankle with our right elbow,and grabbed the back of their belt.We placed our right shoulder tight on their left hip,pulling our weight back we walked slowly around to side control.
