Tonight we covered either the Blue or Purple Belt Syllabus.

Geoff wants to run this on the last sunday of every month.

Rigan Machado Triangle chokes

Hey all. Here are the 2 clips I mentioned in class that cover the Triangle stuff we did last week.

Both clips are by Rigan Machado and it’s the stuff he taught in Australia in 2008.

So here they are, visuals from the master!

Thursday the 24th of August Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started with our feet in our partners hips and we had control of their wrist,or gi cuffs(Thumbs out).We had 3 choices(1) Turn on right hip and put our knee across their belly, pull them forward for the sweep (2) They stand up and put 1 leg forward we would grab the leg, push the opposite hip back and put them on their butt(3)They came up onto 1 knee so we put out foot under that knee for the hook, pull their arms forward, and lift up that same knee for the hooking sweep.

2:Sweep and swap. Here we alternated with our partner once we were swept.

3:(Basic Guard pass):We were stuck in our partners guard. We grabbed their Lapel at the upper chest to stop them from posting up(right hand),and came up off our heels, and place our left foot out at about 7:30.Sitting back down on our heels again to put pressure on their legs,we then did 2 things simultaneoulsy(1) used our left hand to push down on their right knee and pop it open(2) sucked our right arm back to our hip to avoid being triangled.Once the legs were opened we placed their right leg onto our left shoulder.Coming up now onto our feet,we grabbed their lapel at their neck, and pushed their right knee to their nose,or as close as we could get to make it uncomfortable as possible. We then walked around to the right about 90 degrees keeping the pressure on them.Once here we flicked their leg off our shoulder and secured side control. From side control we switched base and place our left lat on their face, as if watching T.V.Grabbibg their left leg with our right hand, and pulling it down,we swung our right leg over(killing the fly) onto mount.

4:we started off being in side control, with both our partners arms across our body(elbows on the mat).We would bump up,swing our right leg under and through, using this leg as a pivot we would come around 90 degrees, place them in guard.

5:Same postion again(side control) but this time our partner would have their right hand blocking our right hip,and the left hand cupping our left shoulder(This is our biggest issue with the pinning of this shoulder). We would buck and bridge to get our left hand under their right armpit(Underhook).Once we had the underhook we would hip away to the left until their was enought space to turn and go to our knees and on all fours, right under our partners stomach.(remember that the left shoulder stays in the same place, and we move our body away).

5b;A extension on drill 5.Here when we dove under,we came up on our legs to dive deeper under our partner. We then sat back and rolled to the side taking our partner with us.

6:Here our partner went for the Guillotine, but before they could sit back into guard,we grabbed their right forearm with both hands and pulled down.As our partner went to sit back down we jumped across the opposite of them, and came around to top control, and grabbed their arm for the fig 4.

Thanks to all that came along to Rigan’s session last night. It was a blast and Rigan enjoyed himself immensely. Here are some pics from the session:

Videos from Thursdays Fundamentals class.

I have a new toy. John showed me his new “Flip Video” and I just had to get one. I tested it on Thursday at the fundamentals class and love it. Straight to youtube in mp4 format. Look out for some clips from classes in the near future. Hopefully this will expand the news site by adding a bit of sound and movement. Stay tuned.

For now here are a couple of small test clips from the class.
