Sunday the 29th of November Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started with partnering up,and rolling at 60% with no subbing

2:Here we had half guard. We grabbed left gi pants at the ankle with our right hand, and their left gi cuff with our right hand.Swing our right hand right around to almost 360 degree’s(trying to hit outselves in the butt),we loaded them onto our right knee, and launched them over to our left hand side, coimg up to knee ride.We then could step our left leg over their head, slide down the bat pole, squeeze the knees, and lie back for the arm bar.

2B:A variation on drill 2:We couldn’t quite load them up on our knee,so we swung around half way to grabbed their left leg and rolled off to the left side,so our left leg went under theirs, and right leg over trapping it.Our hands grabbed lower calf, and we stretched ourselves up, for the knee bar.

3:Here we had feet in the hips, and our hands had control of their gi cuffs, with our knees in their biceps stretching them out. With our left knee we pulld it down, and placed our right shin across their lower stomach(both legs were our to the left hand side.We came around to the right 90 degrees and with our right hand grabbed thier left gi pants at the ankle.pulling our left knee right down to the ground, we rolled over our left shoulder, and pulled their left leg up sweeping them over

3b:A variation on drill 3:We went for drill 3 but this time when we swept them over, our left knee went on their right arm trapping it to the ground. We them put our right hand in their left side gi collar, and our right hand in the right side.We then soun around and tripodded up placing our head on their lower stomach on their right hand side.Bringing our elbows together as much as we could, and raising them up for the spinning choke.

4:We set the butterfly sweep, and out partner lent forward so we swept them over

4B:We set the butterfly sweep, and our partner stood up.With our left foot we wrapped it around their right bicep, and our lright foot went in their hip.We pulled down our left foot and swept them over.

4C:We again set the butterfly sweep. Our partner came around to our right side to pass our guard,so we loaded them onto our right leg pulled our left knee down and launched them over to our left for the sweep.

Thursday the 26th of November Fundamentals

Congratulations to Gareth on his purple Belt.

1:Tonight we started with our feet in our partners hips and we had control of their wrist,or gi cuffs(Thumbs out).We had 3 choices(1) Turn on right hip and put our knee across their belly, pull them forward for the sweep (2) They stand up and put 1 leg forward we would grab the leg, push the opposite hip back and put them on their butt(3)They came up onto 1 knee so we put out foot under that knee for the hook, pull their arms forward, and lift up that same knee for the hooking sweep.

2:Here we had our left foot in our partners right hip,our right foot in their left bicep pushing it back, and our left hand gripping their right sleeve. Our partner was also leaning forward putting pressure on us.Firstly we took their right arm across to our right side and  took our right foot off their bicep, and swung it so our calf muscle was cutting the back of their neck.We then grabbed our right shin with our left hand, and swung our left leg over our right ankle taking our all the space for the Triangle.

3:Here we went for drill 2 but couldn’t quite get the triangle. We grabbed their right arm and placed it into the centre of our chest,(little finger down) squeezed our knees together, and bridged up for the armbar.

4:Again we went for the triangle but this time our partner wrapped their right arm around to grab under their right knee to prevent us from the Triangle or armbar. We  reached around 90 degrees to grab their right ankle or gi at the ankle and pulled oursleves around.Pushing out legs away we grabbed their right wrist with our left hand and pulled it out. With our left hand we wrapped it under their arm,and grabbed our left wrist, and anchor their arm to our chest.Rotating upwards for the Figure 4 tap.

5:Triangle again but again they placed their right arm down, and grabbed it with their left hand, under our butt.Again like drill 4  we grabbed their ankle and swung around 90 degrees, and then a further 90 so our left leg caught their right arm.Coming up we pleaced our left hand over ther back to stop them from rolling away, and turned our knees towards them, and bridged up for the Ooma Plaata.

6:Triangle again but our partner sat back on their ankles. We posted our legs back and put our hands on the mat behind us to do a little hand stand, and pushed them over to the left, causing them to fall over on their back.Trapping their right arm,and putting our left leg over their head,we squeezed our knees together, welded their little finger to our chest(Little finger down) lay back and bridged up for the arm bar.

Sunday the 22nd of November fundamentals

Congratulations to all those who competed in Auckland in the weekend.Great results for GSW

1: Tonight we started with the Feet in hips, with collar and sleeves warmup.

2:Half guard to full guard escape:Here we had half guard on our partner, with our left leg over our right leg.We blocked their left hip with our right hand, and grabbed their right arm with our left hand.Switching feet we placed our left foot in between their legs, and left our right foot loose. We then did a hipout to the left which created enough space to bring our right leg through their legs to put them in full guard.

3:Same positon again as drill 2 but this time, they had the underhook on our left side, and were munting their shoulder into our right side jaw.We did the same thing again with our hands by blocking their hip and grabbing their arm. With our feet we locked onto their calf muscle and stretched it down gving us enough space to put our left hook under their leg.Pushing them up by using the left hook, and our right hand on their hip,we elevated them up enough to bring our right leg under to get them into full guard.

4:Here we had half guard with our left knee in our partners right hip,and had control of their right gi cuff.We posted up on our right hand, and threaded our left elbow under their right arm.We then grabbed their left ankle or gi with our right hand, and shot our left leg out of their hip and rolled over our left shoulder, sweeping our partner over onto their back.

5:Here we had half guard again, with the left hand underhooking their right shoulder. We shot our right hand under to grabbed their left ankle, while again rolling over our left shoulder, once again sweeping our partner onto their back.

5B: Here was a variation on 5.If we went to sweep our partner and they posted their right hand out foiling the sweep, we just ducked out to take their back.

Thursday the 19th of November Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started with our feet in our partners hips and we had control of their wrist,or gi cuffs(Thumbs out).We had 3 choices(1) Turn on right hip and put our knee across their belly, pull them forward for the sweep (2) They stand up and put 1 leg forward we would grab the leg, push the opposite hip back and put them on their butt(3)They came up onto 1 knee so we put out foot under that knee for the hook, pull their arms forward, and lift up that same knee for the hooking sweep.

2:Here we had our partner in side control, with our right leg holding their right leg down.We also were on our right side and our left leg was jammed into their right hip.We brought our left hand up to our left knee. Our partner was pushing forward want to crush our left leg down in order to pass.We used their forward motion to take our left leg out of their hip,and shuffle down using our left arm as a deflector, staying low, ducking out to take their back.

3:Same setup as drill 2 but this time we  came up after we had ducked away.Grabbing their right foot with our hands,we pulled pulling it up towards us,and then throwing our right hand over their back to stop them form escaping. This move crushed their calf muscle,so we waited for the tap.

4;Same setup as drill 2 but we weren’t quick enough and our partner crushed us flat on our back, with their right hand underhooking our left shoulder, and their right hand around our head. Our left hand blocked their right arm against us,and our right hand blocked their left hip.we then hipped out to the left creating enough space to get our left knee back in their right hip again putting us back to square one again.

5:Scorpian Sweep.Again we ended up in postion 4 crushed down.We reached our left arm over and grabbed their left lapel under and pulled it over their back towards us.Our right hand grabbed their left knee. Our left leg went in between their legs. With all 3 grips we pulled them over (Being carfeul not to crush the Nads),and rolled them over to side control.

5B;A variation on 5.We set everything up and went to sweep but our partner posted their right arm on the mat.No problem,we just ducked under out the back to take their back.

Sunday the 15th of November Fundamentals

1:Tonight as a warmup, our partner got there grips and hooks. We would either have to pass or they would have to sweep us.

2:( Basic sweep):Here we have our partner in guard and our right hand was in their collar, and left hand was gripping their right Gi cuff.We then opened our legs and hipped onto our left side, and brought our right knee across to their lower stomach. We then used our whole upper body to pull them forward off their base.As they started to fall,we then used our left leg to kicked their right leg under causing them to turn over, following them over to mount.

3:Here we would go for basic sweep. As soon as our partner was flat on their back,we grabbe dtheir right hand with our right hand, post on our left hand, and swing our left leg across their head. From here we squeezed our knees together capturing their right arm in between, welded their little finger to our chest and lay back bridging up for the armbar.

4:Again we went for Basic sweep. As soon as we got mount,we put our right hand deep into their right collar, and placed our left hand  far away stretching it out onto their left side.(If they bridged this would stop them form sweeping us over). From here we put our head onto the mat,and brought out left hand in to grabbed their left shoulder(as close as we could to their head). We pulled our arms up,and arched our back for the choke.

5:Same setup as drill 4 but this time our partner grabbed our right arm once we had it in their collar, and went to bridge us.We quickly swung our left leg up so our knee was right beside their right ear(side mount). We grabbed their right arm, posted on our right hand, and swung our left leg over their head.Squeezed the knees, welded the little finger to our chest, and lay back for the tap.

6:Again same setup as drill 5.They go to bridge,so we again got to side mount but this time we used our right hand to feed their right hand to our left hand(which was around their head). We then rolled back onto our back, and got both hooks in,to set us up for a choke or armbar

6B:A variation on drill 6.This time when we got to sidemount we used our right hand to feed their ride side collar to our left hand.We then rolled to our back, and got the hooks in,and proceded to go for the choke(Lapel half nelson,or double lapel choke).

Thursday the 12th of November Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started with our feet in our partners hips and we had control of their wrist,or gi cuffs(Thumbs out).We had 3 choices(1) Turn on right hip and put our knee across their belly, pull them forward for the sweep (2) They stand up and put 1 leg forward we would grab the leg, push the opposite hip back and put them on their butt(3)They came up onto 1 knee so we put out foot under that knee for the hook, pull their arms forward, and lift up that same knee for the hooking sweep.

2:Here our partner put a bit more pressure on us to pass our Guard starting form Drill 1 postion.

3:Here our partner was lying down with their knees up.We kept our left hand on their right knee, and our right hand on their left knee.Jumping around to our left,we would slide our right knee down their right thigh. We then did the same on the right side, and kept on repeating left and right.

4:Same setupa s drill 3 but this time we would use the cross grips and get opposite hands touching, then sliding down the knee.We also said “Fuck off” out loud as part of the drill.

5:Here we were standing and our partner had their feet in our hips.We would take control of the gi pants or feet depending on which side, step back, and bring our knee around to the side we wanted to pass, and put our shin against their hip.

6:Here our partner had hooks and double underhooks. We dropped our right bicep to block their left hsin and grab underneath their belt of gi jacket.Rolling them over to the left we stepped our right leg off their hook, and walked around to the left, also blocking their right leg with our left hand to side control.

7:Here our partner had us in open guard.Geoff explaind about having 2 arms in or 2 arms out to avoid things like the Triangle. We cupped our hands together in a gable grip, and hoisted our partner up onto our knees.Making a fist we pushed our right hand to the floor and flip then to the left hand side.We then ran around to the right all the way around keeping our hips low, looking for the cross face grip as we came around.

8:Same setup as 7 but this time we grabbed our partners belt, and stood up,and stepped back.Pulling thm up we flipped them over their head to all 4’s.We then came around to side back control and got the seatbelt grip, brought our left leg in line with their left leg and pulled them over and took their back,to go for a choke.

Sunday the 8th of November Fundamentals

1:Tonght we started out in guard. Our partner had to pass or we had to sweep.

2:Here we started out in side control. Our partner had to keep us there,or we had to escape.

3:Here our partner had mount. We had to escape or our partner had to keep us there.

4:We had the remainder of the class with pass or sweep. The Blue Belts and purple  had what guard and grips  they wanted. We had to either sweep or our partner had to pass.

Thursday the 5th of November Fundamentals

1:Tonight we started with our feet in our partners hips and we had control of their wrist,or gi cuffs(Thumbs out).We had 3 choices(1) Turn on right hip and put our knee across their belly, pull them forward for the sweep (2) They stand up and put 1 leg forward we would grab the leg, push the opposite hip back and put them on their butt(3)They came up onto 1 knee so we put out foot under that knee for the hook, pull their arms forward, and lift up that same knee for the hooking sweep.

2:Here we started off in with our partner in side control, and we had our left hand grabbing their right bicep, and our right hand over the opposite side.We then did a quick push up and jumped to knee, and pull their right arm to the sky.Putting all our weight on our right knee,we stepped our left leg over their head, slid down the bat pole(Arm),and sat on our butt.bringing our knees together we welded their little finger to our chest bridges up for hip penetration, for the Arm bar.(Near arm bar in the Blue belt Syllabus)

3:Again we had side control and jumped to knee ride, but stuffed up the near arm bar.Our partner used their left hand to push on our right knee to try and get us off  knee ride creating a big hole.We used our right hand to cup their left arm,and stood up to pull them right onto their side, almost onto our feet.Steeping over their head,we spun around and kicked them in the ribs with our left foot, and again sitting on our butt(our right leg was also over their head). We then brung our knees together, welded their little finger to our chest, and bridged up for the arm bar(This is the far armbar in the Blue Belt Syllabus).

4:Here we had short based side control with our left elbow by their left ear,and the underhook,so our right hand was cupping their left shoulder. We posted up with our left hand right by their left ear,and spiked our right elbow into their left ribs, and pulled back slightly to create some space. We stepped our left leg over their head and spun around to kick them in the back of the spine still having their left arm trapped,we then squeezed the knees, welded their little finger to our chest, abd bridged up for the tap.For a better result  we tried grabbing their left leg with our left hand to stop our partner from escaping.

5:Here we started in knee ride, and placed our left hand on their right side collar. With our right hand we placed it in their left side collar to get the baseball bat grip.We then brought our elbows together and lifted our left arm slightly closing the gap.Spinning aound to the front,we then placed our head on our partners right side and did a tripod up,and lifted our arms up for the spinning choke.

6:Here we went to go for the spinning choke but before we could spin around our partner blocked by grabbing our right hand, and pulled it down. With our left hand we grabbed their right hand and pulled it towards us capturing it..With our left hand we pushed down on their  left shoulder, and stepped our left leg over their head and sat down. From here we squeezed our knees, welded their little finger to our chest, and bridged up for the armbar.

Sunday the 2nd of November Fundamentals

:Tonight we started with our feet in our partners hips and we had control of their wrist,or gi cuffs(Thumbs out).We had 3 choices(1) Turn on right hip and put our knee across their belly, pull them forward for the sweep (2) They stand up and put 1 leg forward we would grab the leg, push the opposite hip back and put them on their butt(3)They came up onto 1 knee so we put out foot under that knee for the hook, pull their arms forward, and lift up that same knee for the hooking sweep.

2:Here our partner had us in side control but then switched base facing the front. They also had us in a head lock.We quickly pulled our right arm in and put the forearm in their right hip, while rolling on our right side.We then reached around with our left hand to grab their left shoulder, and used our right hand to grab their left hand.In this particular drill their left leg was within reach of our left foot, which we used our left foot to hook over and pull back towards us.This caused them to fall flat on their face onto the mat.

3:Same startup as drill 2 but this time their left leg wasn’t within reach of us being able to hook our left leg over.We again sucked our head(no neck) and right arm in.Still grabbing the same grips but this time we walked our legs away flipping our legs over to come to our knees, and right elbow. This enabled us to roll our partner over to the left hand side.If they were still locked onto our head we were able to break the grips.

4:Slightly different setup for this drill. They still had switched base side control, but had their right leg right up by our head(Extension of our spine),and had secured our right arm,so we couldn’t pull it back.We wrapped our arms around their top half of their body and locked our hands together.Moving our legs 2 inches to the right,we then bridged up and then rolled them over our left shoulder again if they still had our head we broke the grip.

5:Here our partner  had switched base side control butdidn’t have our head but had the underhook on the left side.We grabbed their collar on the right hand side with our left hand, and dropped our legs down to go limp.Pushing the collar to our feet, our partner rolled back.At this point we flipped our legs around to the left, getting side control on our partner.
